IDE-JETRO Recruitment of Staff Members for 2013

Available positions and qualifications

Research fellows in the following fields:
  1. Area Studies (with research interests in development-related disciplines, including regional studies, business administration, geography, sociology, demography, politics, international relations, economics, economic history, political history and public administration)
  2. Development Studies (with research interests in theoretical and empirical studies of technological innovation, trade and investment and other development issues)
*Note: Positions are basically tenure positions. However, depending on the screening results, tenure track positions may be offered to applicants. Tenure track position is fixed-term and the initial contract will be for three years. (The contract may be extended for another two years) During the contracted period, his/her research achievement will be reviewed to determine whether tenure position is offered.

Applicants must have
  1. PhD degree (or expect to be awarded a PhD no later than early 2013) and
  2. proficiency in English.

  2. Documents: All applicants must provide the following:a.
    1. Curriculum Vitaedoc with a recent photograph. (You can download a template from above.)
    2. an essay explaining your motivation for applying for the position (Your essay, in English or Japanese, should not exceed one A4 size page.)
    3. a list of your academic publications, including books, monographs, research papers, and other works in English and, if applicable, in Japanese.
    4. a letter of recommendation from a professor or senior researcher from your university or institute or any comparable institution.
    5. a copy of your PhD dissertation.
    6. a copy of one major academic publication (book, monograph, research paper, or refereed article in English or Japanese.
    7. a copy each of the abstracts of items listed in (g) and (h) above.
    8. copies of degrees and certificates.
    9. a self-addressed envelope (12 x 23 cm) (with a 80-yen stamp for Japan-based applicants) to allow us to inform you of the result of your application.

Application period

May 9 to July 2, 2012 (All applications must be received by July 2.)

Evaluation procedure

  • First screening: examination of documents, dissertations and publications.
    * Shortlisted applicants will be notified of details of second screening in mid-July.
  • Second screening: Job talk in late July.
  • Final screening: oral examination and interview in English or Japanese (to be held in lateJuly and/or early August). 

Employment period

Employment will begin on April 1, 2013.

Remuneration

Salary will be determined on the basis of age and work experience as per organizational regulations.
